We're excited to announce that Regen Coordination is joining the Bread Solidarity Fund — transitioning from ReFi DAO's membership that began earlier this year.
What is Bread Cooperative?
Bread Cooperative is the evolution (not a pivot) from Breadchain — a worker collective building solidarity tools more accessible to broader communities — from the Bread Solidarity Fund (previous named Bread Crowdstaking) to upcoming tools like Bread Stacks (collective savings) and Bread Safety Net (community insurance).
Bread Coop is grounded in four key principles:
- Dual Power — Building parallel tech institutions from the grassroots;
- Economic Democracy — Striving for democratically allocated resources rather than market-driven ones;
- Mutual Aid — Communal solidarity through reciprocal exchange for mutual benefit;
- Transparent Governance — Everyone should have a say, with power holders held accountable.
Through the Bread Solidarity Fund, real funding is channeled for member projects every month — now including Regen Coordination! The fund works by turning passive crypto yields into active community funding, providing continuous support through community-directed yield distribution.
With over $40,000 distributed to member projects and a growing community united by solidarity, Bread Cooperative is demonstrating what a worker-owned future can look like.
Why This Transition, Why Now?
ReFi DAO joined Breadchain as a member project at the beginning of 2025 - while this connection has been fruitful, we saw that transitioning the membership to Regen Coordination unlocks even greater potential for interconnecting networks, communities, and movements.
Regen Coordination is a values-aligned alliance of Web3-enabled communities working together to drive ecological, social, and economic regeneration. Founded by ReFi DAO and Greenpill Network with support from Celo Public Goods and Gitcoin, Regen Coordination weaves together local and global networks to create shared infrastructure, coordinate funding rounds, and advance collective impact.
This transition brings Bread Coop closer to Regen Coordination's constellation of local and global networks - including ReFi Nodes, Greenpill Chapters, BioFi Hubs, and more - supporting the creation & adoption of novel (regenerative) financial systems by local place-based communities, going beyond the historical disconnection of crypto from real/local economies and values.
In a time when public goods funding is ever more scarce, and crypto is increasingly co-opted into tech-fascism — it becomes necessary for aligned movements to articulate alternative visions, exercise solidarity, and build more resilient communities.
How to Engage
$BREAD is the cooperative funding mechanism where pooled stablecoin collateral (1:1 USD peg) generates yield that is distributed between member projects of the Bread Solidarity Fund Network. When you bake (mint) $BREAD, you can vote on which member organizations should receive more yield.
