We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Regen Coordi-Nation – a pioneering collaboration between GreenPill Network, ReFi DAO, and Celo Public Goods aiming to support a global movement of regenerative communities leveraging Web3 technology to address local needs and create real-world impact. Kickstarting the alliance with The Regen Coordi-Nation GG21 Genesis Round and $50K in matching funds, the round is open to applications from ReFi DAO Local Nodes, GreenPill Local Chapters, and Celo Regional DAOs. Key dates include the application period from July 24th to August 6th and the round start of August 7th. Together, we are embarking on a mission to demonstrate how community organization, innovative financial mechanisms, and Web3 can enable ecological and social regeneration on a global scale.

The Power of Local Communities

Local communities are crucial to the success of regenerative finance. Connected globally, ReFi Local Nodes serve as hubs of opportunity where community members can learn, experiment, and implement ReFi solutions tailored to their local contexts. This cosmo-local network aims to foster innovation and adapt regenerative practices to meet diverse needs, ensuring effective and sustainable solutions grounded in lived experiences.

ReFi DAO has a history of supporting Local Nodes through Gitcoin funding rounds, including the Local Node Beta Round (April 2023) with $25k match funding, and a GG18 Round (August 2023) with $30k match funding. Most recently in the beginning half of 2024, we completed our second incubator program for our beta cohort of Local Nodes. ReFi addresses a fundamental issue: the traditional financial system often prioritizes short-term gains for capital holders at the expense of nature and biodiversity. By shifting towards sustainable and inclusive models, ReFi focuses on the holistic wellbeing of people and the planet and stands as a symbol of hope and transformation. Emerging from the Regenerative Economics and DeFi movements, ReFi leverages Web3, DLT, AI, and dMRV technologies to achieve its goals.

Uniting for Regeneration

As well as ReFi DAO's efforts, GreenPill Network has been continuing to invest in it’s Local Chapters — a “CoordiNation across Nations & Cultures” that exports regenerative digital infrastructure to the world. At the same time, Celo Regional DAOs have been active since 2022 as a program to empower local communities to spearhead Celo adoption and growth in their region.

Each of these networks share common overlapping values, missions, and identities. Yet at the same time, each has a unique proposition, unique audience, and unique resources & capabilities. Inspired by BlockchainGov’s concept of a ‘Coordi-nation’ — voluntary interwoven networks of communities with aligned values and a shared identity — ReFi DAO, GreenPill Network and Celo Public Goods are coming together to form ‘The Regen Coordi-Nation.’

Our roadmap includes both a Gitcoin Grants 21 (GG21) round with $50k matching, as well as a retroactive funding round later this year based on participation & impact with at least $50k more in funding. A huge thank you to each of these parties in making this program possible – Celo Public Goods committing $50K, ReFi DAO and GreenPill Network each contributing $5K, and Gitcoin providing an additional $50K.

Eligibility & Application Process

Each local community must receive a nomination from the respective evaluation and governance processes of ReFi DAO, GreenPill, or Celo Public Goods (Celo PG). For ReFi Local Nodes, applicants must fill out their Local Node Profile, submit this as a proposal on the ReFi DAO Charmverse and then only apply to the round through Gitcoin Grants once approved.
